FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ABOUT

What is The Cooking Collaborative?

The Cooking Collaborative is a culinary collaborative & education incubator. The reason we choose to describe ourselves as a "collaborative" is due to our beliefs that success sprouts through support. A flower does not grow without the support from its other counterparts, nor do we grow without the help from YOU.

We use the word "incubator" to describe our business as we will always provide an environment to grow healthier and happier bodies.

SERVICES

CATERING

ARE YOUR PRICES HIGHER THEN MOST CATERERS?

Our prices may be slightly higher then most caterers due to our practices and ordering-standards. We source the majority of our products from local farms and organic growers, making food costs higher then other businesses. What you can count on is that you will receive quality product each and every time.

PERSONAL CHEF SERVICES

DO I NEED TO BE HOME FOR THE PERSONAL CHEF TO PREPARE MEALS IN MY HOME?

No. You do not need to be home for our personal chefs to prepare meals in your home. We advise clients to alert the property manager, gate, as well as housekeepers of our presence so that access to your home can be a seamless process. We always carry business cards as well as forms of identification for safety purposes.

WHY DOES THE COOKING COLLABORATIVE PREFER TO STORE MY MEALS IN GLASS?

We prefer to package your meals in glass, hoping to avoid BPA packaging chemicals found in most plastic containers. If you are interested in purchasing glass containers, we've hand-selected our favorite American-made glass containers available here on our site.

ARE GROCERIES INCLUDED IN THE COST?

No, groceries are paid for separately from the hourly chef fee.

CAN THE CHEF PICK UP EXTRA ITEMS FOR ME WHILE THEY ARE AT THE STORE?

Unfortunately we do not offer personal shopping services outside of what the menu outlines. If you are on a weight-loss journey or feeling that you may need a few extra nibbles, we are happy to include additional quantities and items, however these items need to be suggested when the menu is approved.

Do you have to do the cooking in my home?

Yes. Florida State Health Department regulations require that all meals prepared by a personal or private chef be made in the client's home or in a commercial kitchen. If you would like to discuss the possibilities of your meals being made in The Cooking Collaborative's commercial kitchen please email us. An additional hourly fee will be required to meet these needs.

ARE YOU INSURED?

Yes. The Cooking Collaborative takes safety very seriously and we are fully insured and licensed in the state of Florida, along with our personal chef independent contractors.

Do you have a food handlers card?

Yes. Chef Deanna is ServSafe certified (National Restaurant Association) as well as a food safety manager through the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals.

Is The Cooking Collaborative a licensed caterer?

Yes. The Cooking Collaborative, LLC is a licensed caterer in the State of Florida through the Division of Hotels and Restaurants - Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

What should I expect in a culinary academy class?

We believe that learning to cook is a collaborative effort. With multiple dietary restrictions playing a roll in many of our lives, it is often hard to feel supported in your food and lifestyle choices. Our business helps to create a support structure.

We provide detailed instructions on how to feed your body well and create quality dishes with long-lasting skills.

Our children's classes are structured as hands-on while our adult classes are more demonstration-based. We focus on our children's classes being hands-on to sprout a stronger interest in food in our youth. During our children's classes we go over proper safety and sanitation practices, knife skills, and often play food-recognition games with each mini-chef group.

RECIPES & FOOD BELiEFS

WHY DOES THE COOKING COLLABORATIVE USE ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF SWEETENERS SUCH AS DATES, BANANAS, AND HONEY?

We almost always use these ingredients as our sweeteners as they will provide stronger benefits for your body when compared to refined white sugar. We believe that by eating 'whole foods' your body has a better opportunity to receive the vital minerals and vitamins that you would not be getting when consuming refined sugars.

I'M ALLERGIC TO NUTS. HOW SHOULD I MANIPULATE THE RECIPE?

We suggest adding sunflower seeds to your recipes if it is a recipe that requires the "nuts" to be ground or soaked. When baking, use ingredients such as buckwheat, rice flour, corn meal, sorghum flour, or coconut flour. For crunch in a salad, try adding in sunflower seeds, pepitas (pumpkin seeds,) or sesame seeds!

IS THE COOKING COLLABORATIVE A VEGAN CULINARY COMPANY?

No. We do not focus on one diet alone. Every, and all individuals have different nutritional needs and wants. We believe in NUTRIENT-DENSE, NOURISHING, and HONEST cuisine, however do not promote one diet alone!

We provide a great deal of vegan dishes as we are a company that holds plant-centric values. We prefer to be called 'plant-pushers.'

SHARING RIGHTS / SOCIAL MEDIA

CAN I REPOST THE COOKING COLLABORATIVE'S RECIPES ON MY BLOG OR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM?

Yes! We would love to see you share our work, however we always share any collaboration with proper tagging. We give credit where credit is due, and we believe you should too. Please share our work as well as our artisan's work with a link that is directly from our site, and/or the artisan's site. The artisans that we work closely with should be given the same exposure we receive.

These "joint works" or "collaborations" should be published as interdependent parts if shared on any digital or print medium giving credit to both/all parties. If you would like to see more information on our policies, please look at our 'terms and conditions' and 'privacy policy' by clicking here.

COMPOSTING

WHY DOES THE COOKING COLLABORATIVE COMPOST?

It's the right thing to do - that's why. We believe in composting at our events because it allows us to give back to the earth. We get so much from Mother Earth, why can't we do the same for her, plus it keeps quality ingredients for our soils out of the landfill. Read about our beliefs here.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE THE COOKING COLLABORATIVE COMPOST FOOD SCRAPS AT MY EVENT?

No, however we highly recommend that you do! By having composting at your event we are able to eliminate your food scraps from landfills. This allows us to "donate" these scraps to the soil for better enrichment. You can read more about composting on our blog by searching the tag "composting" or by clicking here.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

WHY DOES THE COOKING COLLABORATIVE AVOID FOCUSING ON ONE DIET?

We do not focus on one diet alone for our beliefs that not one individual's system is exactly alike. Through our own struggles, it has taken years to understand what's right for each person's body, especially our own. We believe in nutrient-dense, nourishing, and honest food to serve your body well.
